Malta, officially known as the Republic of Malta is a small Southern European island country in the Mediterranean and an EU (European Union) member state. It consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino and is one of the smallest nations in the world. Its capital Valetta, is the smallest national capital in the European Union. A republic nation, Malta’s official language is Maltese although English is its second official language. Located in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea, this island nation has been inhabited since 5000BC which is reflected in the different historical and cultural influences the country has to offer.Its strategic location puts it within close distance with major European cities like Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Istanbul and Athens

The Maltese are known to be warm and welcoming and religion plays a fairly important role in their daily life.The climate in Malta is Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters. Although Malta is known for its stunning beaches, beautiful cathedrals and an overall top tourist destination, it is also known for its higher education institutions and respected ancient seats of learning, some tracing back to as early as the 1500s.
